Steps underway to build medical colleges in Chandpur, Nilphamari: PM
Replying to another written question tabled by MP Md Mostafizur Rahman Babul, the prime minister said there are currently 37 government medical colleges across the country, of which 23 have hospitals with 500 beds or more in operation.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said steps are underway to build medical colleges and hospitals in Chandpur and Nilphamari.
Responding to a written question from MP Md Hafiz Ibrahim during a session of the Jatiya Sangsad today (29 April), he said construction of 500-bed hospitals is currently underway at eight medical colleges in Jashore, Pabna, Cox's Bazar, Noakhali, Rangamati, Sunamganj, Patuakhali, and Jamalpur.
Replying to another written question tabled by MP Md Mostafizur Rahman Babul, the prime minister said there are currently 37 government medical colleges across the country, of which 23 have hospitals with 500 beds or more in operation.
He added that preparation of Development Project Proposals (DPPs) for the construction of medical colleges and hospitals in Magura, Habiganj, Netrokona, and Naogaon is underway, while necessary steps are being taken to build medical colleges and hospitals in Chandpur and Nilphamari.
The prime minister also said the government is committed to ensuring sustainable housing and the social and economic development of landless, homeless, and underprivileged families.
He noted that after the BNP formed the government in 2001, the 'Abashan Project' was launched under the Prime Minister's Office to rehabilitate landless and disadvantaged families across the country.
The project was implemented between 2001 and 2006 with the aim of rehabilitating 65,000 families.
He further said the 'Guchchhagram-Phase 3 Project' under the Ministry of Land is currently being processed to rehabilitate families affected by natural disasters and river erosion, as well as landless and homeless people.
He added that the National Housing Authority under the Ministry of Housing and Public Works is implementing projects to expand planned housing for low- and middle-income groups and to build affordable homes for low-income people at district and upazila levels.
