Crime has increased compared to interim govt period: Hasnat Abdullah
He urges the home minister to disclose what steps are being taken to curb crime and what future measures are planned
Cumilla-4 lawmaker Hasnat Abdullah has claimed that the country's law and order situation is deteriorating, with crime reportedly rising beyond levels seen during the interim government period.
"People now believe that the level of crime has exceeded all limits compared to what was witnessed during the interim government," he said while speaking to reporters this afternoon (5 May) after a meeting with local stakeholders on the widening of the Chandina-Debidwar highway.
Hasnat, chief coordinator (southern region) of the National Citizen Party (NCP), also urged the home minister to disclose what steps are being taken to curb crime and what future measures are planned.
Referring to India's legislative assembly elections, he said greater efforts are needed to protect the rights of communities considered minorities in political contexts, in order to send a positive message globally.
He stressed the need to counter attempts to portray Bangladesh's communal harmony negatively, saying the world must be informed that the country remains a safe place for people of all religions and opinions.
He further said service-oriented institutions must remain people-centric, without the involvement of intermediaries between service providers and recipients. He also called for more active efforts to safeguard citizens' rights.
