7-year-old girl found with slit throat at Ctg ecopark dies
She passed away at around 4:30am today (3 March) while undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), her uncle Md Romiz confirmed
Jannatul Nisha Ira, the seven-year-old girl who was rescued with her throat slit from a remote hilly area in Sitakunda, Chattogram, has died after two days of treatment.
She passed away at around 4:30am today (3 March) while undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), her uncle Md Romiz confirmed.
Doctors performed surgery on her throat on Sunday night (1 March) after she was taken to CMCH in critical condition. The following day, she was shifted to the hospital's One-Stop Crisis Cell (OCC), where she died while receiving treatment.
Ira was found on Sunday morning inside the Botanical Garden and Ecopark area in Sitakunda municipality. Workers engaged in renovation work on the Chandranath Temple road inside the ecopark first spotted her in a remote hilly spot and rushed her to Sitakunda Upazila Health Complex, where hospital authorities conducted a primary investigation and said she was gang-raped.
She was later admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital and while under care in the hospital's Ear, Nose and Throat department, she underwent surgery that same night.
Officer-in-Charge of Sitakunda Police Station Mohinul Islam said the girl's mother had filed a case over attempted murder. "Following the child's death, the case will be converted into a murder case. We are trying to identify and arrest the culprit," he said.
Romiz said their house is about half a kilometre from Ira's paternal home. "On Sunday morning, Ira left home. It is believed she was heading towards her uncle's house. But how she reached the remote hilly area, the family does not know," he said.
The family has demanded a swift investigation and exemplary punishment for those involved.
