Faridpur tree fair draws crowds with Tk2 saplings
The low-cost initiative is offering improved varieties of vegetable and flower saplings to encourage tree planting and home gardening among people.
A stall selling saplings for as little as Tk2 has emerged as one of the biggest attractions at the ongoing tree fair in Faridpur, drawing large crowds eager to buy improved vegetable and flower varieties at affordable prices.
The SDC stall at the fair, being held in front of the Faridpur Civil Surgeon's Office, is offering hybrid eggplant and marigold saplings for Tk2 each, while hybrid Tej Gold chilli and Purple King eggplant saplings are being sold for Tk2.50 apiece.
According to stall representatives, the initiative aims to make high-quality saplings accessible to people from all income groups while promoting tree plantation, home gardening and vegetable cultivation.
"The response has been overwhelming. The Tk2 saplings have attracted a large number of visitors, and many people are buying them every day," said Sohanur Rahman, a salesperson at the stall.
Visitors praised the initiative, saying the low prices made it easier for families to purchase quality saplings and would encourage more households to plant trees and grow vegetables.
The organisers hope the initiative will help expand greenery and inspire greater public participation in tree planting and sustainable home gardening.
