12kg LPG cylinder price cut by Tk357 for July
The new rates were announced today (2 July) and will take effect from 6pm.
The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has reduced the retail price of privately supplied liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), slashing the price of a 12kg cylinder by Tk357 to Tk1,528 for July amid a decline in international LPG prices.
The new rates were announced today (2 July) and will take effect from 6pm.
Under the latest adjustment, the retail price has been set at Tk127.30 per kg, down from Tk157.06 per kg in the previous month, representing a reduction of Tk29.76 per kg.
Based on the revised per-kilogram rate, the prices of LPG cylinders of all sizes will be adjusted accordingly.
The latest reduction follows a Tk55 cut in June and comes as global LPG prices have declined after geopolitical tensions in the Middle East eased, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the United States and Iran and the subsequent reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
However, the price of the state-owned LP Gas Limited's 12.5kg LPG cylinder remains unchanged at Tk825.
BERC also reduced the price of autogas used in vehicles to Tk70.40 per litre from Tk86.93 per litre.
The commission has been fixing LPG prices on a monthly basis since April 2021, using the Saudi Contract Price (CP) announced by Saudi Aramco as the benchmark for propane and butane, the two main components of LPG.
It also takes into account the average exchange rate based on import invoices submitted by LPG operators.
