Man held in Ctg for illegal bird trade, two parrots rescued

A young man was detained in the Muradpur area of the port city this afternoon (15 April) for allegedly engaging in the illegal trade of protected birds, with authorities recovering two parrots during the operation.

Confirming the matter, Chattogram Wildlife and Nature Conservation Officer Dipannita Bhattacharjee said to The Business Standard, "During initial questioning, the detainee admitted that he had been involved in the purchase and sale of wildlife for a long time."
"A case has been filed under Section 41(3) of the law, which is punishable under Section 44. The accused has been produced before the court, while a formal forest case report will be submitted through the relevant authorities", she added.
Authorities noted that the recovered birds fall under the listed protected species as per the Wildlife (Conservation and Security) Ordinance 2026, making their trade illegal.
According to officials from the Wildlife Division of Forest Department, the drive was carried out around 2pm near Zaman Hotel in Muradpur under the jurisdiction of Panchlaish Police Station, following a tip-off about the illegal buying and selling of birds. The officials caught the accused red-handed with two Parrots.
