Five people were killed and three others injured in separate road accidents in Sunamganj today (4 May).
Four of the deaths occurred in Chhatak upazila when a passenger bus collided with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on the Sunamganj–Sylhet highway around noon, in front of Jalalpur Government Primary School.
One of the deceased was identified as Yusuf Ali, 55, son of Hashem Ali from Tahirpur upazila, while the identities of the other victims have yet to be confirmed, said Abdul Motaleb, Officer-in-Charge of Joykolosh Highway Police Station.

According to highway police, a passenger bus travelling from Sylhet to Sunamganj veered from the left lane to the right and hit an oncoming CNG-run auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction. The impact threw the auto-rickshaw far off the road.
The injured were rescued and taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. Authorities said the condition of at least two injured victims is critical.
In a separate incident on the Dirai-Madanpur road, an unidentified woman, aged around 40, was killed after being run over by a speeding bus while crossing the road, according to police.
