Youth hacked in Mohammadpur; friend alleges snatching, police cite previous enmity

A 26-year-old grocery trader was hacked in Mohammadpur this morning, with his friend alleging that the attackers took Tk20,000 and his motorcycle, while police said he was attacked over previous enmity.
The incident took place on Sadeq Khan Road around 7:45am today (17 September), said the victim's friend Mohammad Biplob.
According to Biplob, the victim, Arian Mohammad Hridoy, was riding his motorcycle to Krishi Market to collect goods when several people stopped him on Sadeq Khan Road. They allegedly attacked him with machetes, injuring his back and waist, before taking his motorcycle and Tk20,000.

Hridoy is currently receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Biplob said.
Jewel Rana, additional deputy commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Mohammadpur zone, said Al Amin alias Baro Kamla Al Amin hacked Hridoy, better known as Malkhor Hridoy, with a machete over previous enmity.
Police identify Al Amin as a member of a teen gang and a drug trader active in Mohammadpur and Hazaribagh.
Police also allege that Hridoy is a known snatcher and drug trader in the Mohammadpur-Hazaribagh area and used to trade drugs under the patronage of alleged top drug trader Chapa Arif.
Police said several cases and allegations have been filed against Hridoy.
Rana said Hridoy's motorcycle was not snatched and was with his friend.
No one has filed a complaint with police over the alleged snatching, he added.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the attack.
