Salman Shah murder case: Actor Don placed on 5-day remand

A Dhaka court today (27 August) granted a five-day remand for actor Ashraful Haque Don, in connection with the murder case of popular film actor Salman Shah.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jewel Rana passed the order after a hearing today; Omar Faruq Faruqi, public prosecutor, confirmed.
CID Inspector Mojibur Rahman, also the investigating officer of the case, filed the plea on 20 August with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana.

The court then fixed today for a hearing in the presence of the accused.
According to the remand petition, the case concerns the death of popular actor Salman Shah and has drawn widespread attention.
His mother Neela Chowdhury has demanded an impartial investigation since he died in 1996, continuing her campaign through newspapers and social media.
The petition said interrogating Don in police custody could help uncover the truth behind the case.
It also described Don as "highly cunning and crafty", saying intensive questioning could help investigators identify and arrest other suspects allegedly involved in the case.
Lawyers including Dhaka Bar Association Secretary Kalam Khan and Tarikul Islam Jewel represented Don and sought cancellation of the remand. The state opposed the plea.
After hearing both sides, the court granted a five-day remand.
Don was arrested by immigration police on 9 August at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and was later handed over to the CID. He was subsequently sent to jail.
Salman Shah's maternal uncle, Mohammad Alamgir, popularly known as Alamgir Kumkum, filed the case against 11 people, including Salman's wife, Samira Haque, with Ramna Police Station in the capital on 21 October 2025, under Sections 302 and 34 of the Penal Code.
The other accused are Samira's mother Latifa Haque Lucy, businessman Aziz Mohammad Bhai, actor Ashraful Haque Don, David, Javed, Faruk, Ruby, A Sattar, Saju and Rezvi Ahmed alias Farhad.
Salman Shah died at his residence in Eskaton, Dhaka, on 6 September 1996.
His death was initially treated as a suicide, but a murder case was later filed.
Several individuals have been named during different stages of the investigation.
