HC bail for ex-MP Bodi stays suspended in Bogura July Uprising violence case
Bodi accused of financing violence, according to case
The Appellate Division today (8 June) upheld its stay on the High Court's bail order for former Cox's Bazar Awami League lawmaker Abdur Rahman Bodi in a case filed over violence in Bogura during the July Uprising.
The order was passed by an Appellate Division bench led by senior justice Md Ashfaqul Islam.
On 26 February, a High Court bench comprising Justice Md Atoar Rahman and Justice Biswajit Debnath granted bail to Bodi. The state later appealed, seeking a stay on the bail order.
On 5 March, Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division Justice Md Rezaul Haque stayed the bail and sent the matter to the regular bench for hearing.
The case was filed against Bodi and several others over violence that took place in Bogura on 4 August 2024 during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
According to the case statement, Bodi was identified as a financier of the violence.
Following the fall of the Awami League government during the July Uprising, Bodi was arrested from Chattogram's Panchlaish area on 20 August 2024.
