Court orders further probe into Primeasia University student Parvez murder case
The court directed the CID to conduct a further probe and submit its report by 7 September.
A Dhaka court today (4 August) ordered a further investigation into the murder case over the killing of Primeasia University student and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader Zahidul Islam Parvez.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah passed the order today after hearing a petition filed by the complainant challenging the police investigation, confirmed Public Prosecutor Harun Or Rashid.
The court directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to conduct the further probe and submit its report by 7 September.
Parvez, a Textile Engineering student at Primeasia University, was killed on 19 April 2025 after a clash between students of the Textile Engineering and English departments on the Banani campus.
He was allegedly stabbed by students from the English Department.
The following day, the victim's cousin, Humayun Kabir, filed the murder case with Banani Police Station.
After completing the investigation, Banani Police Inspector AKM Moin Uddin submitted a charge sheet on 29 April, accusing nine people: Meheraj Islam, Abu Jafar Giffari alias Piyas, Md Mahathir Hasan, Md Al Kamal Sheikh alias Kamal, Alvi Hossain Junaid, Al Amin Sani, Fatema Tahsin Oishi, Faria Haque Tina and Rakib.
The investigating officer also recommended that eight others, including Banani unit Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Joint Convener Sobhan Niaz Tushar, be discharged from the case due to a lack of evidence.
The complainant subsequently filed a naraji petition, alleging that the investigation was inadequate. Following a hearing on the petition, the court ordered the CID to carry out a further investigation.
