ACC sues main accused in Sharif Osman Hadi murder case over fraud, money laundering
The ACC alleges Faisal and others embezzled Tk95.69 lakh using a fake tender notice and forged documents, while Faisal is also accused of holding Tk1.95 crore in unexplained assets.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against Faisal Karim Masud the prime accused in the murder of Sharif Osman Hadi along with three others, on charges of fraud, forgery, embezzlement and money laundering.
In a separate case, the ACC also sued Faisal Karim Masud for acquiring wealth beyond his known sources of income. Alongside this, the commission has decided to issue an order directing his wife, Shaheda Parvin Samia, to submit a wealth statement over allegations that she illegally amassed Tk65 lakh in assets disqualified by her known income.
The information was disclosed today (21 September) by ACC Secretary Md Saidur Rahman Khan during the commission's regular media briefing at its head office.
According to the ACC, the fraud and money-laundering case has been filed against Faisal Karim Masud; Md Shafiqul Islam, executive officer at Midland Bank's Rupnagar sub-branch; Md Sarwar Hossain, relationship officer at the same branch; and Faisal's wife, Shaheda Parvin Samia.
The commission alleges that the accused prepared fake tender notices, luring two companies with the promise of participating in a joint venture, and collected Tk95,69,000 in pay orders as tender security. Using forged and fabricated trade licences, and with the help of dishonest bank officials, they allegedly opened personal bank accounts in the name of government organisations and embezzled the money.
The ACC further alleges that funds were first moved through the fake tender notice from the account of "Indeed Cloud BD" to an account held by Faisal's own company, "Apple Soft IT," and later transferred to his personal account at NRB Commercial Bank. The money was subsequently converted into a fixed deposit receipt (FDR) in the name of his wife, Shaheda Parvin Samia, at NRB Commercial Bank's Benaroshi-Palli sub-branch.
The case has been filed under Sections 406, 420, 467, 468, 471 and 109 of the Penal Code 1860, Sections 4(2) and 4(3) of the Money Laundering Prevention Act 2012, and Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1947.
Separately, the ACC has filed another case against Faisal Karim Masud under Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2004, accusing him of acquiring and possessing Tk1,94,58,509 in assets beyond his known sources of income.
In addition, the commission has decided to order his wife, Shaheda Parvin Samia, to submit a wealth statement under Section 26(1) of the same act, over allegations that she accumulated Tk65 lakh in assets disproportionate to her known income.
