Army deployed in Chattogram to assist flash flood response
Continuous heavy rainfall and hill runoff have caused severe flooding in Lohagara, Satkania, Chandanaish, and Banshkhali upazilas, leaving around 4,00,000 people stranded and affected
The Bangladesh Army has been deployed in Chattogram under the In Aid to Civil Power framework to assist the civil administration in responding to the flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall and hill runoff.
According to an official statement issued today (10 July), the deployment follows an emergency request from the Chattogram district's deputy commissioner. Troops from the Army's 10 Infantry Division and 24 Infantry Division are conducting search, rescue and relief operations in several flood-hit upazilas.
Continuous heavy rainfall and hill runoff have caused severe flooding in Lohagara, Satkania, Chandanaish, and Banshkhali upazilas, leaving around 4,00,000 people stranded and affected. In response, the 10 Infantry Division has deployed emergency rescue teams along with the necessary equipment to the affected areas.

Meanwhile, heavy monsoon rains have also triggered severe flooding in Boalkhali, Hathazari, and Fatikchhari upazilas. Troops from the 24 Infantry Division have been deployed to carry out emergency rescue and relief operations in these areas.
The army said its personnel are conducting search and rescue (SAR) operations to evacuate stranded residents from all these areas. To facilitate the rescue and relief efforts, the 24 Infantry Division has also established three camps in the flood-affected areas.
The Bangladesh Army said it remains committed to working alongside the civil administration during natural disasters to protect lives and property, adding that its operations will continue until the overall situation returns to normal.
