The Ministry of Home Affairs has dismissed four senior police officers from service on charges of "misconduct and absconding" after disciplinary proceedings found them guilty of remaining absent from duty without authorisation.
The dismissals were announced through four separate gazette notifications issued today (9 July).
The dismissed officers are Additional Superintendent of Police Jewel Chakma, Additional Superintendent of Police Mishu Biswas, Assistant Superintendent of Police Afzalun Nesa and Assistant Superintendent of Police Md Mahmudul Hasan.
According to the notifications, Jewel Chakma, who was serving with RAB-14 in Mymensingh, went on six days' leave on 4 October 2025 but failed to return after his leave expired.
Mishu Biswas, then posted at the Jamalpur In-Service Training Centre, left on 16 October 2024 after taking 10 days' leave to participate in the "Ironman 70.3 Malaysia 2024" international sporting event. He did not rejoin his workplace after the leave ended.
Afzalun Nesa, who was serving as a probationary assistant superintendent of police in Mymensingh and later attached to Police Headquarters, submitted a departure report on 7 November 2017 to attend the orientation course for the 35th BCS (Police) batch.
The officer did not join the subsequent basic training and has remained absent ever since.
Mahmudul Hasan, who was serving as a telecom officer (ASP) at the Police Telecom Organisation, travelled to Saudi Arabia on 13 September 2024 after taking 15 days' leave to perform Umrah but did not return to duty after the leave expired.
The notifications state that all four officers remained absent from their workplaces for more than 60 days without permission. Departmental proceedings were initiated against them under the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules on charges of "misconduct and absconding", and show-cause notices were issued.
As the allegations were proven during the disciplinary process, the government imposed the major penalty of dismissal from service by order of the president, the notifications added.
