Govt launches nationwide farmer data collection for 'Farmer's Card'
In the first phase, authorities will collect data from one agricultural block in each upazila. The programme will subsequently be expanded to cover all blocks in phases.
The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has launched a nationwide data collection campaign on farmers and agricultural land to facilitate the implementation of the government's proposed Farmer's Card programme.
The data collection began simultaneously in all upazilas across the country from today (18 July), according to a press release issued by the Department of Agricultural Extension.
In the first phase, authorities will collect data from one agricultural block in each upazila. The programme will subsequently be expanded to cover all blocks in phases.
The initiative follows a decision taken at the second meeting of the Farmer's Card Technical Working Committee, held today under the chairmanship of the agriculture minister at the Ministry of Agriculture.
According to the press release, the committee decided that farmer and land data collection would begin simultaneously in every upazila to support the implementation of the Farmer's Card programme, which was announced in the government's election manifesto.
The Farmer Card initiative is expected to create a comprehensive database of farmers and agricultural land, which the government aims to use to improve the delivery of agricultural services, support programmes and other farmer-focused initiatives.
