Trump says oil taken from Venezuela paid for Iran war '25 times over'
Speaking during a public address, Trump said: "How did we do in Venezuela? Not bad," before adding that the amount of oil taken out of the South American country had paid for the costs of the war on Iran "about 25 times over."
US President Donald Trump said on Friday that revenues generated from Venezuelan oil had more than offset the financial cost of the US military campaign against Iran, arguing that his administration's policies toward Venezuela had delivered major economic benefits.
Speaking during a public address, Trump said: "How did we do in Venezuela? Not bad," before adding that the amount of oil taken out of the South American country had paid for the costs of the war on Iran "about 25 times over."
Trump did not provide details to support the claim, says Dawn.
The remarks come after Pentagon figures released earlier this month estimated that the US military campaign against Iran had cost about $29 billion. Other independent estimates, however, have suggested that the total cost of the conflict could be significantly higher.
Trump has repeatedly pointed to increased oil production linked to Venezuela as a key achievement of his administration's foreign and energy policies. In recent months, he has also suggested that US involvement in Venezuela's oil sector had generated substantial economic returns.
