Palestinian goalkeeper Saleem Al-Ashqar killed in Gaza by Israeli forces: PFA

A Palestinian goalkeeper, Saleem Al-Ashqar, was killed in the Gaza Strip, according to the Palestinian Football Association (PFA), which said he died after Israeli occupation forces opened fire.
Al-Ashqar, 32, was part of a growing toll on the Palestinian sporting community during the conflict that began in October 2023. The PFA said more than 1,000 Palestinian athletes and hundreds of sporting figures have been killed since the start of the war, says Middle East Monitor.
His death drew expressions of grief from family members, teammates and members of the wider sporting community, according to information released following his death.
Al-Ashqar had been married for five months, and his wife is expecting their first child.
The Chilean football club Deportivo Palestino expressed sadness over his death and called for justice and peace in the region.
