Iran says no negotiations while under ‘state of siege’: Pezeshkian
The conversation covered regional developments, ongoing Iran–US negotiations in Islamabad, and issues related to a ceasefire
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said in a phone call with Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif that Iran would not enter negotiations while facing pressure, threats, or what he described as a state of siege, according to statements from the Iranian presidency.
The conversation covered regional developments, ongoing Iran–US negotiations in Islamabad, and issues related to a ceasefire, says Mehr News Agency.
According to the Iranian president's remarks, Pezeshkian criticised the United States' conduct in the region.
Critique of US conduct: Pezeshkian accused the United States of violating ceasefire understandings through coercive behaviour and maritime restrictions. He argued these actions are inconsistent with the United Nations Charter and have created significant doubt regarding Washington's true commitment to the diplomatic process.
On security matters, Pezeshkian reaffirmed Iran's position on national defence and regional stability.
National security and regional stability: Reaffirming Iran's intent to defend its national security, the president warned that any renewed confrontation initiated by the US or the Israeli regime would have dire consequences for both regional and global stability.
He also outlined Iran's approach to regional relations, particularly with neighbouring states.
Regional cooperation: Iran expressed a continued commitment to strengthening ties with its neighbours, specifically those along the southern shores of the Persian Gulf. Pezeshkian emphasised a vision for regional peace and security based on mutual respect and "good neighbourliness", ideally achieved without external interference.
The Iranian presidency said Pezeshkian thanked Sharif and Pakistan's army chief for their efforts in supporting diplomatic initiatives and restoring peace.
Pakistan's diplomatic role: Pezeshkian thanked Prime Minister Sharif and the Pakistani army chief for their active efforts in supporting diplomatic initiatives and peace restoration.
