Invest in Bangladesh to access 300-crore regional market, Bobby Hajjaj tells Japanese investors
Speaking at the Bangladesh Investment Promotion Seminar in Japan, he said Bangladesh's position at the crossroads of South Asia and ASEAN creates significant opportunities for Japanese investors
State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj today (4 August) urged Japanese businesses to invest in Bangladesh, saying the country's strategic location offers access to a regional market of more than 300 crore consumers.
Speaking at the Bangladesh Investment Promotion Seminar in Osaka, Japan, he said Bangladesh's position at the crossroads of South Asia and ASEAN creates significant opportunities for Japanese investors.
The seminar was jointly organised by the Japan External Trade Organization (Jetro), the Bangladesh Embassy in Japan, and the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Bobby Hajjaj said the proposed Bangladesh-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) and the initiative to establish a dedicated economic zone for Japan would further strengthen trade and investment between the two countries.
He said Bangladesh's economy is currently worth more than $500 billion and that the government aims to expand it to a $1 trillion economy by 2034.
He also highlighted the country's workforce of more than 7 crore young people as a key advantage for foreign investors.
He said bilateral trade between Bangladesh and Japan currently stands at about $3.5 billion and expressed the hope of increasing it to $10 billion over the next few years.
The state minister invited Japanese investment in sectors including machinery, automobile parts, electronics, pharmaceuticals, agro-processing, renewable energy, ports, edtech and skilled human resource development.
Bangladesh Ambassador to Japan Md Daud Ali, officials from Jetro and the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and representatives of more than 100 Japanese institutions attended the seminar.
