India ready to induct next-generation missile system in the armed forces

India has completed user evaluation trials of the next-generation Akash missile system, a potent system for ensuring air defense against different types of aerial threats, paving the way for its induction in the country's armed forces.
The trials were conducted by the state-owned Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). "During the trials, the missiles successfully intercepted aerial targets at different range & altitude including the near-boundary-low-altitude and long range, high altitude scenarios," the Defence Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday night.
All the systems and sub-systems including the Multi Function Radar (MFR), Command and Control Unit, Missile Launch Vehicle (MLV) etc, have been designed by various laboratories of DRDO with the help of Indian industries. The trials were witnessed by senior scientists of DRDO and Indian Air Force (IAF).

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh complimented DRDO, Indian Air Force and the industry on successful completion of User Evaluation Trials of Akash-NG and said the state-of-the-art missile system will further strengthen air defence capabilities of the IAF.
The DRDO Chairman said the successful completion of the user trials has paved the way for induction of Akash-NG into the Indian armed forces.
