Five people were reported missing after a sudden flash flood in the Budhi Gandaki River swept away 65 houses across Gorkha and Dhading districts of central Nepal this morning (11 October).
Armed Police Force spokesperson Netra Bahadur Karki told the media that all five missing persons were reported from Gorkha district, adding that report collection remains ongoing. He said the flood also destroyed two motorable bridges and two suspension bridges.
The flash flood was triggered by a landslide at Chumanubri Rural Municipality in Gorkha district, which temporarily dammed the Budhi Gandaki River, the Nepal Army said in a statement. The river subsequently breached the landslide blockage, sending a sudden surge of water, mud, and debris that devastated settlements along its banks.
