Qatar works to revive stalled US-Iran peace talks.
Qatar has been working for nearly two weeks on proposals aimed at reviving suspended peace talks between the United States and Iran, the country's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari said on Monday (21 September).
Speaking in an interview with Bloomberg, Al-Ansari said Qatari mediators were coordinating with Tehran and Washington to determine whether the talks could be restarted, reports Al Jazeera.
"Our mediation team is working in coordination with Tehran and Washington to assess whether it is possible to resume the talks," Al-Ansari said, adding that Qatari mediators were travelling between several capitals in an effort to make progress in the diplomatic process.

He also said Qatari representatives had received assurances from US officials that Washington was serious about reaching an agreement.
Al-Ansari also called for regional security arrangements and an international settlement to protect international waterways, particularly the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
He warned against placing any international waterway under the sovereignty of a single state or using it as a weapon, saying such a precedent would be dangerous for all.
His comments came as Qatar and Oman continue diplomatic efforts with Iran over the future of the Strait of Hormuz.
Qatar has been pushing for the waterway to reopen, while Iran and Oman have been discussing arrangements for safe shipping through the strait.
Qatar has played a key mediating role between Washington and Tehran, including efforts to revive diplomacy and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
