Kuwait, Pakistan sign defence, military cooperation agreement

Kuwait and Pakistan have signed a defence and military cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening coordination between their armed forces and enhancing military readiness.

Kuwaiti Defence Minister Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah and his Pakistani counterpart Khawaja Mohammad Asif signed the agreement in Islamabad, Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported.

The signing took place during the Kuwaiti defence minister's official visit to Pakistan, where he was accorded a formal military reception.

Chief of the General Staff of the Kuwaiti Army Lt Gen Khaled Al Shuraiaan and Kuwait's Ambassador to Pakistan Nassar Al Mutairi also attended the ceremony.

According to a statement issued by Kuwait's Ministry of Defence on Thursday (27 August), the two defence ministers reviewed bilateral relations and discussed prospects for closer cooperation in military and defence affairs.

They also exchanged views on recent regional and international developments, issues of common interest and efforts to address them in ways that support regional security and stability and strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries.

The ministry said the agreement marks a significant milestone in Kuwait-Pakistan military and defence cooperation.

It provides a framework for enhancing operational coordination, exchanging expertise and improving the readiness and integration of the two countries' armed forces, according to the statement.

The agreement is also expected to serve the two countries' common interests and contribute to security and stability in the region.
