Facebook, Instagram restored after 2-hour outage
The desktop version of Meta's Facebook appeared to be unavailable for some users
Popular social media platforms Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram were restored this afternoon (19 July) after a sudden outage disrupted services for users in several countries, including Bangladesh.
The platforms became fully operational again after 3:40pm, following nearly two hours of disruption.
Earlier in the afternoon, many users reported problems accessing the web versions of Facebook and Messenger. Some experienced slow loading speeds, while others were unable to access the platforms altogether.
Users also reported difficulties viewing their news feeds, sending messages, and making calls through Messenger.
At the height of the outage, some Facebook users were shown the message: "Account Temporarily Unavailable. Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue. We expect this to be resolved shortly. Please try again in a few minutes."
Outage tracking website DownDetector also recorded a sharp spike in reports involving Facebook and Instagram shortly before 2pm.
The cause of the disruption was not immediately known, and Meta had not yet issued a statement.
