Thomas Dooley appointed Bangladesh football team head coach
BFF described him as a coach capable of “building teams from the ground up”, noting his familiarity with Asian football environments.
The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has officially appointed German-American coach Thomas Dooley as the new head coach of the Bangladesh men's national football team, shortly after his arrival in Dhaka today (22 May).
The federation confirmed the appointment through its official Facebook page and a media release, ending weeks of speculation over the national team's coaching position.
Although the decision had been widely anticipated, BFF delayed formal confirmation until Dooley reached Bangladesh.
In its statement, the federation said it looked forward to working with Dooley as he takes charge of the national side.
Dooley brings extensive international experience, having represented the United States at the 1994 FIFA World Cup and captained the side at the 1998 edition. He also served as assistant coach of the US national team under Jürgen Klinsmann between 2011 and 2014.
BFF described him as a coach capable of "building teams from the ground up", noting his familiarity with Asian football environments.
The federation highlighted his spell with the Philippines, where he guided the team to an unbeaten AFC Asian Cup qualification campaign and helped achieve their highest-ever FIFA ranking.
More recently, he coached Guyana, winning all four matches under his tenure.
Dooley is expected to begin work immediately as Bangladesh prepares to strengthen its national football programme and build a competitive squad around emerging young players.
