Opartheeb performs at Capital Music Awards
Bangladeshi-Canadian band Opartheeb performed at the Capital Music Awards 2026 in Ottawa, Canada, on 9 October, featuring an original Bengali song from its debut album.
The band performed "Shagorer Pronoy" (Love of the Sea) at the National Arts Centre. The song is part of its debut album, Abchha Neel Kona, released in March 2025. It tells the story of the sea and the shore, exploring love, longing and separation.
Formed in Ottawa in 2008, Opartheeb combines Bengali musical influences with symphonic metal and rock. The band has performed in Canada and Bangladesh, sharing stages with Bangladeshi acts including Warfaze, Artcell, Chirkutt and Shironamhin.
In January 2024, Opartheeb returned to Bangladesh for a sold-out show. In 2026, the band also released a symphonic metal version of Rabindranath Tagore's composition "Anondodhara", titled "Anondodhara – Reforged through Opartheeb".
Vocalist and guitarist Salehin Chowdhury said performing an original Bengali song in Ottawa was meaningful to the band, as the city is where it began its musical journey.
The band's current line-up includes Salehin Chowdhury on vocals and guitar, Syed Adnan Ali on drums, Asfin Haider on vocals and choir, Aad-Yean Faisal on keyboards, and Ahsan Ali on bass guitar.
