World's oldest stock exchanges

Founded by the Dutch East India Company, the Amsterdam Stock Exchange, now Euronext Amsterdam, was the first exchange to trade securities rather than commodities and the first to establish an investment fund in 1774 to prevent stock market crashes. In 2000, it merged with the Brussels and Paris exchanges to form Euronext, the largest pan-European stock exchange group operating major markets across Europe.
