Tk34.45cr approved for development of Jashore's Shams-Ul-Huda Stadium

The Finance Division has approved administrative and financial expenditure of up to Tk34.45 crore for the overall development of Jashore's Shams-Ul-Huda Stadium.

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit confirmed the development by sharing the Finance Division's approval letter on his Facebook page (9 September).

In a letter sent to the National Sports Council by the Planning-1 branch of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the ministry said the estimated cost of the "Development of Jessore District Shams-Ul-Huda Stadium" project must remain within Tk34.45 crore.

The authorities have also been instructed to prepare and submit a revised Development Project Proposal (DPP) for approval in line with procedures set by the Planning Division and applicable financial rules.

According to sources at the Jashore District Sports Association, the foundation stone of the stadium was formally laid on 15 January 1959.

The stadium, including its structures, occupies 6.95 acres of land, while the main field covers 5.91 acres.

However, the stadium has long suffered from severe waterlogging, particularly during the monsoon.

Water often rises to knee level across large sections of the field as the ground is around two to two and a half feet lower than the surrounding areas.

The absence of an effective drainage system means even light rainfall can leave the field waterlogged for extended periods. Water from surrounding areas also flows into the ground, further worsening the situation.

As a result, the field remains unsuitable for sporting activities for a significant part of the year.

Despite the problems, the stadium hosts various sporting events, including football, cricket, hockey and handball, from local competitions to national-level tournaments.
