At least 320 Indian nationals missing in flood-ravaged Nepal
India is also stepping up humanitarian assistance to Nepal following the devastating floods, with a third aircraft carrying relief materials expected to be sent to the neighbouring country.
At least 320 Indian nationals are missing in flood-hit Nepal, while around 100 people of Indian origin remain uncontactable in the country, India's External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said today (28 August).
"Around 400 Indian nationals who had travelled to the region for the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage are currently on the Chinese side and are safe," he said at a press briefing in New Delhi.
Another 96 Indians who had been stranded on the Chinese side have safely crossed into Nepal by land, Jaiswal added.

Jaiswal said India is preparing to send a tunnel rescue team, with an advance team being flown to Nepal to assess the situation on the ground.
India has also offered to deploy National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams along with rescue equipment, while a medical team is being sent to assist with relief efforts.
Meanwhile, parts of Bihar are facing the threat of flooding as water levels in the Ganga, Gandak, Kosi and Burhi Gandak rivers continue to rise following heavy rains and devastating flash floods in neighbouring Nepal.
A senior official said excess water from the flash floods has caused the Gandak River to swell, prompting authorities to open all 36 gates of a barrage over the river at Valmiki Nagar.
