Syngenta, CAB International partner to support smallholder farmers
Syngenta Bangladesh Limited and CAB International have signed a memorandum of understanding to support smallholder farmers, promote the responsible use of agricultural inputs and strengthen sustainable farming practices in Bangladesh.
The agreement was signed at CAB International's Dhaka office on 20 August, according to a press release.
Syngenta Bangladesh Director for Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Mohammed Shahidul Islam and Cabi Regional Director for South Asia Dr Vinod Pandit signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations.
The partnership will combine Syngenta's agricultural expertise and farmer outreach with Cabi's international experience in plant health, knowledge sharing and sustainable development.
A key focus of the collaboration will be supporting the objectives of PlantwisePlus, Cabi's global programme designed to help smallholder farmers manage plant health threats, improve their livelihoods and food security, and adopt more sustainable crop-production practices.
The partnership will also strengthen stewardship practices among farmers, spray service providers, channel partners, and other relevant stakeholders.
Cabi is an international, intergovernmental, not-for-profit organisation that applies scientific expertise and shares knowledge to address agricultural and environmental challenges.
