EC issues gazette declaring Fakhrul president-elect
The notification was issued after Fakhrul secured 255 votes against Oli Ahmad’s 88 in today’s presidential election.
The Election Commission (EC) has issued a gazette notification declaring Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir the 23rd president-elect of Bangladesh.
The notification was issued today (20 August), with EC Secretary Akhter Ahmed signing it by order of the Chief Election Commissioner, according to an EC press release.
The notification said Fakhrul was declared elected president under Section 11 of the Presidential Election Act, 1991, following the declaration by the returning officer and election commissioners.
The declaration was made in accordance with Rule 12(6) of the Presidential Election Rules, 1991.
Fakhrul, the BNP's presidential candidate, secured 255 votes in today's presidential election, defeating Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Chairman Col (retd) Oli Ahmad, who received 88 votes.
Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin announced the result after voting and counting were completed.
