Measles death toll reaches 840 as 3 more children die in 24hrs
Bangladesh has recorded 16,180 laboratory-confirmed measles cases and more than 1,11000 hospitalisations since mid-March, according to DGHS data.
Three more children have died with measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours until 8:00am today (1 August), raising Bangladesh's combined total of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 840, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The latest figures show that suspected measles deaths now stand at 744, while laboratory-confirmed deaths have reached 96.
During the same period, 751 new suspected measles cases were reported, taking the cumulative number of suspected infections nationwide to 129,061.

Meanwhile, 121 new laboratory-confirmed cases were recorded, bringing the total number of confirmed measles infections this year to 16,180.
Since 15 March, a total of 111,674 patients with suspected measles have been hospitalised across the country. Of them, 107,397 have recovered, according to DGHS data.
Health authorities have continued to urge the public to ensure children receive routine measles vaccinations and to seek medical attention promptly if symptoms develop.
