Miscreants open fire at journos in Khulna; no casualties reported
Police recovered part of a bullet from the scene and said they were investigating the motive behind the attack.
Unidentified individuals opened fire at a group of journalists in Khulna city early today (15 July) though no casualties were reported.
The incident took place around 12:30am in front of a tea stall on the western side of the United Nations Shishu Park in the city.
Witnesses said several journalists had gathered at the tea stall after work, as they regularly do, when two young men arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire at them before fleeing the scene.
A bullet missed the journalists and hit a chair at the spot. A fragment from the bullet lightly injured journalist Awal on his chest, fellow journalists said. He is now out of danger.
SA TV correspondent Mati said six journalists were chatting at the tea stall when the attackers suddenly fired at them.
Senior Staff Reporter of the Daily Khulnanchal Syed Rana Kabir said the bullet got lodged in a chair after missing the journalists, while a fragment caused minor injuries to Awal.
Police later arrived at the scene and recovered part of a bullet.
Khulna Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Shafiqul Islam said no casualties were reported.
"We recovered part of the bullet from the scene and are investigating the motive behind the shooting," he said, adding that police were trying to identify those involved.
