A blaze broke out today (15 July) at Ananta Apparels Limited in the Narayanganj Export Processing Zone (EPZ), with firefighters bringing it under control after four hours.
According to the fire service, the fire started after 4am in the factory's warehouse. Nine firefighting units were deployed to contain the fire.
Saleh Uddin, deputy director of the fire service (Dhaka division), said the agency received the first report of the fire at 4:10am.
Firefighters from the Adamjee EPZ fire station initially responded, but additional units from Narayanganj, Kanchpur and other stations were dispatched as the fire intensified, he added.
The fire spread quickly through the warehouse, triggering panic among workers. However, no casualties were reported.
Saleh Uddin said smoke was still rising from the warehouse because it mainly stored fabric, while the building's shed had collapsed. The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage will be determined following an investigation, he said.
