Can Nigeria’s drone industry deliver Africa’s defence sovereignty?
Nigerian startup Terra Industries is trying to change that picture in Africa, which has long relied on foreign defense technology. The company is locally manufacturing drones, surveillance towers and unmanned ground vehicles, which are already being used to protect critical infrastructure in eight African countries and Canada. The company has planned to expand rapidly in the context of the growing security crisis and drone warfare in Africa. However, according to experts, true defense sovereignty can only be achieved if effective policies, accountability and good governance are ensured, not just technology production.
