Gazipur MPs, govt employees to donate salaries to PM's relief fund for flood victims
Under the overall coordination of the Gazipur district administration, the equivalent of one day's basic salary from all government employees in the district will be collected within the next three working days and dispatched swiftly to the prime minister's fund
All five members of parliament (MPs) from Gazipur district have decided to donate their full basic salary of one month, while all local government officials and employees have pledged to contribute a day's basic salary to the Prime Minister's Relief and Welfare Fund in an effort to stand by the flood-affected people across the country.
The decision was unanimously taken today (12 July) during a district law and order committee meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner's (DC) office, chaired by Gazipur DC and District Magistrate Md Nurul Karim Bhuiyan.
The initiative began during the meeting when AKM Fazlul Haque Milon, lawmaker for the Gazipur-5 constituency and convener of the district BNP unit, announced his decision to donate his entire one-month basic salary to the relief fund.
He then urged the government employees present to contribute one day's salary.
Gazipur DC Nurul Karim expressed solidarity with the call, prompting the heads of various government offices in attendance to agree to the move on behalf of their respective staff.
"This joint contribution of public representatives and government officials and employees will be a shining and exemplary example for other regions of the country," he said.
According to him, under the overall coordination of the Gazipur district administration, the equivalent of one day's basic salary from all government employees in the district will be collected within the next three working days and dispatched swiftly to the prime minister's fund.
