Concord marks 51 years of landmark projects in Bangladesh
Concord Group is celebrating 51 years of operations, underscoring its pivotal role in shaping Bangladesh's infrastructure, real estate, construction materials, tourism and urban development sectors.
Established amid Bangladesh's post-independence reconstruction, Concord Group's early initiatives focused on rebuilding war-ravaged bridges, highways and transport networks, prioritising people and quality. The group subsequently diversified into real estate and large-scale national projects.
In 1982, Concord Group constructed the National Martyrs' Memorial (Jatiyo Sriti Shoudho) at Savar, delivering the complex structure in 89 days to meet a government deadline. The company also built the original Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and its VVIP terminal.
Concord later built some of Dhaka's earliest corporate high-rises in Motijheel, including Janata Bank Bhaban, Jiban Bima Tower and Bangladesh Shilpa Bank Bhaban. According to the company, Bangladesh Shilpa Bank Bhaban was the country's first high-rise with three basement levels. Outside Bangladesh, the group built the 720-foot Singapore City Telecommunication Centre Building.
In 1998, Concord said it became the first company to commercially supply ready-mix concrete in Bangladesh using automated batching plants. That year, it also introduced eco-friendly concrete blocks and hollow green bricks to reduce the use of topsoil and air pollution from traditional brick kilns.
The group later developed Lake City Concord, described as the country's first pollution-free satellite township, comprising more than 4,000 apartments built without burnt clay bricks. Concord Group stated that the initiative contributed to the government's decision to phase out traditional clay bricks. The company subsequently received the National Environment Award from the Government of Bangladesh.
Other major projects include the World Trade Centre in Chattogram, the National Indoor Stadium and the British High Commission in Baridhara. Concord Group also expanded into tourism and leisure with the Fantasy Kingdom Complex and the Foy's Lake Concord Resort complex.
As Concord Group marks 51 years of continuous operations, Concord Real Estate reports a current focus on high-end residential projects in Gulshan, Banani and Baridhara, emphasising residents' wellbeing and structural quality.
