Bangladesh businesses look to tap global halal market at D-8 Expo in Indonesia
The pavilion serves as a strategic platform to promote Bangladesh's export potential while strengthening bilateral trade relations between Indonesia and Bangladesh.
Bangladesh is seeking to expand its footprint in the fast-growing global halal industry, with 22 companies and institutions participating in the D-8 Halal Expo 2026 in Jakarta as Dhaka and Jakarta move to deepen economic ties.
The five-day expo, which began yesterday, has brought together around 40 business representatives from Bangladesh. Their participation was facilitated by the Embassy of Indonesia in Dhaka in collaboration with the Indonesia-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IBCCI), the Indonesian Embassy said today (9 July).
Organised under Indonesia's chairmanship of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, the expo is one of the bloc's flagship initiatives to strengthen economic cooperation, promote the halal industry, and boost trade and investment among member states.
According to the embassy, the strong Bangladeshi participation reflects growing interest among local businesses in tapping the expanding global halal market by building partnerships with Indonesian firms and other D-8 member countries.
IBCCI also organised the Bangladesh Pavilion, featuring products from Bangladeshi companies, to showcase Bangladesh's export potential and create new business opportunities in halal products and related industries.
The Bangladesh Pavilion was inaugurated by Indonesian Ambassador to Bangladesh Listyowati and IBCCI President Mohammed Riyadh Ali.
On the sidelines of the expo, Ambassador Listyowati met Bangladeshi exhibitors and business representatives to facilitate business matchmaking and explore opportunities for greater trade, investment and economic cooperation between the two countries.
The IBCCI booth was also visited by Indonesia's Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa and Vice Foreign Minister Muhammad Anis Matta.
Leading Bangladeshi companies participating in the expo include Meghna Group of Industries, PRAN-RFL Group, Akij Food & Beverages and ILLYEEN.
