DUET holds seminar on research excellence, global collaboration
Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology, Gazipur, on Wednesday hosted a seminar focused on advancing research excellence, fostering international collaboration, and expanding higher education opportunities, aiming to equip students and researchers for success on the global stage.
The seminar, titled "Research Excellence, International Collaboration, and Higher Education: Pathways to Global Opportunities," was jointly organised by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell of Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology and the DUET Career and Research Club.
The event took place at the university's Shaheed Shakil Parvez Auditorium in the afternoon on 8 July 2026, drawing participation from teachers, researchers, and students across various departments and institutes.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Engineer Mohammad Iqbal attended as chief guest, while Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Arefin Kawsar was present as special guest.
Director of Student Welfare Professor Dr Utpal Kumar Das and Additional Director of the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell Professor Dr Shafiqul Islam were also present as special guests.
Distinguished Research Professor at Sunway University in Malaysia and Head of the Research Centre for Nano-Materials and Energy Technology Professor Dr Saidur Rahman presented the keynote paper.
President of the DUET Career and Research Club, Hasanur Rahman, delivered the welcome address.
Chief guest Professor Dr Engineer Mohammad Iqbal emphasised that creating opportunities for students and researchers to connect with world-class research institutions is one of the university's leading objectives in the era of globalisation.
"Since its establishment, DUET has remained committed to producing quality engineering graduates and advancing research and innovation in engineering and technology. We want our students to make their mark internationally through merit and skills," he said.
He added that the university administration is working to sign memorandums of understanding with international universities and research institutions, undertake joint research projects, and expand teacher-student exchange programmes.
The vice-chancellor expressed hope that the seminar would play a pivotal role in strengthening DUET's research culture and elevating the university's global standing.
Professor Dr Md Arefin Kawsar noted that the university is making concerted efforts to enable students to benefit from global research opportunities by forging links with international institutions.
"The exchange of experience with experts such as Professor Dr Saidur Rahman will serve as a highly valuable resource for our students and researchers," he said.
In his keynote address, Professor Dr Saidur Rahman underscored the significance of international networking, joint research projects, and global partnerships in attaining research excellence.
He also provided detailed guidance to students on pursuing higher education opportunities abroad.
Professor Dr Md Obaidur Rahman, director of the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell and chair of the seminar, said research and international collaboration are essential to ensuring quality higher education.
"This seminar will help our students and researchers develop a global outlook," he said.
A question-and-answer session followed, with students raising queries about international higher education and research scholarships, which the keynote speaker addressed.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks from the chair.
