Rashed Khan Menon shown arrested in teacher recruitment corruption case
The case alleges that an illegal recruitment board was formed.
A Dhaka court today (8 July) ordered former minister Rashed Khan Menon to be shown arrested in a corruption case over alleged irregularities in teacher recruitment at Willes Little Flower School and College.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Shahjahan Kabir passed the order following a petition by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
ACC Assistant Director Md Ferdous Rahman, the investigation officer, sought to show Menon arrested in the case on 30 June. ACC Prosecutor Delwar Jahan Rumi confirmed the matter.
The ACC filed the case against Menon and 19 others on 22 December last year over allegations of appointing 13 pre-selected candidates through irregularities and fraud.
The case alleges that an illegal recruitment board was formed, candidates without the required NTRCA certificates were allowed to participate, and the highest scorer in the written examination was barred from the viva.
Appointment and joining letters were also allegedly issued before the recruitment process was completed.
Menon, president of the Workers Party, has been in jail since his arrest on 22 August 2024.
