BGB busts illegal arms cache on Kushtia frontier; seizes foreign-made pistol, ammunition
No arrests were made during the intelligence-based operation in Daulatpur.
The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) today (6 July) recovered a foreign-made pistol, two magazines and three rounds of live ammunition during a special operation in a border area of Kushtia's Daulatpur upazila.
However, no one was arrested in connection with the recovery.
According to BGB, a patrol team from Udaynagar Border Outpost (BOP) under Kushtia Battalion (47 BGB) conducted the intelligence-based operation in the Degreechar area of Chilmari union at around 9:30am.
During the drive, the team recovered the foreign-made pistol, two magazines and three rounds of live ammunition abandoned in an ownerless condition.
The recovered weapon and ammunition were later handed over to Daulatpur Police Station for legal action.
BGB said it has been conducting regular intelligence-based operations to curb the spread of illegal firearms and maintain law and order in border areas, adding that the latest recovery was part of those efforts.
Daulatpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khaledur Rahman said the police had received the recovered firearm, magazines and ammunition from BGB.
He said legal procedures are underway and a case is being processed.
Lieutenant Colonel Rashed Kamal Rony, commanding officer of Kushtia Battalion (47 BGB), said the border force would continue intelligence-based operations to prevent cross-border crimes, including the smuggling of firearms, ammunition and narcotics, and to ensure border security and public safety.
