3 schoolboys killed after motorcycle crashes into tree in Jaflong
The three students had gone for a ride after completing their examinations when the speeding motorcycle reportedly lost control on a tea garden road in Sylhet's Gowainghat.
Three schoolboys were killed after the motorcycle they were riding crashed into a tree in Jaflong under Gowainghat upazila of Sylhet yesterday (5 July).
The accident occurred on the Radhanagar–Baurbhag Tea Garden road in East Jaflong Union.
The deceased were identified as Sakib Ahmed, 16, son of Mohorom Mia of Noyabosti village; Raihan Ahmed, 16, son of Habibur Rahman (Hobi) Mia of Chhailakhel village; and Joy, 16, son of Razzak Mia of Lakherpar village.
The victims were all eighth-grade students of Jaflong Amir Mia High School and College.
Gowainghat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Omar Faruk confirmed the incident to The Business Standard, saying all three students died in the crash and legal procedures are underway.
According to locals and police sources, the three friends went to the Jaflong Tea Garden area on a motorcycle after finishing their school examinations.
While travelling towards Radhanagar Bazar, the motorcycle reportedly lost control due to excessive speed and slammed into a roadside tree.
One of the victims died at the scene, while the other two succumbed to their injuries later that night at separate hospitals.
Meanwhile, Gowainghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ratan Kumar Adhikari urged parents to be more responsible in preventing teenagers from reckless motorcycle riding and called for stricter measures to improve road safety.
