Shanta Pinnacle: The brilliant engineering behind Bangladesh’s first 40-storied skyscraper
For a city on the rise, nothing speaks louder than what it builds. Rising 500 feet above Dhaka, Shanta Pinnacle, Bangladesh's first 40-storied skyscraper is not simply a structure. It is a declaration that this city is ready, this nation is rising and the skyline will never look the same again.
In cities across the world, commercial skyscrapers became symbols of ambition and progress. The taller the structure, the stronger the statement with skylines emerging as reflections of economic momentum and modern development. Yet not long ago, Dhaka told a different story. As cities like Dubai, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur reshaped their skylines, Dhaka had yet to claim its own iconic skyscraper. Over time, as the city's ambitions grew, Tejgaon emerged as one of Dhaka's most compelling examples of urban transformation.
Now, that transformation has its landmark. Shanta Pinnacle - Bangladesh's first 40-storied skyscraper, announces Dhaka's place in the global conversation. Spanning approximately 670,000 square feet, rising 500 feet above ground, Pinnacle is more than a record-setting building. It represents a new benchmark where architecture, engineering and sustainability come together to shape the future of workspaces in Bangladesh.
An engineering foundation built for scale
While Pinnacle's height captures attention, its true achievement lies in the engineering behind it. Each floor is designed for structural integrity, efficiency and occupant comfort. The architectural vision was led by Ehsan Khan, Principal of EK Architects, supported by an international team of specialized consultants. Pinnacle became Bangladesh's first development to undergo both Performance Mock-Up (PMU) testing and Wind Tunnel testing. These are internationally recognized testing processes that assess façade performance, structural behavior and a building's long-term resilience under real-world conditions. Such engineering disciplines are common in many of the world's leading skyscrapers to ensure maximum integrity, but had never been done before in Bangladesh. By adopting these practices, Shanta sought not merely to build taller, but to build with greater certainty, durability and responsibility. The construction itself set a new industry benchmark. Using advanced aluminium formwork, Shanta achieved a record-setting 7-day slab cycle, making it the fastest civil construction in the real estate sector.
Designed around occupant experience
At Pinnacle, design serves a clear purpose: creating a better workplace. The floor layouts have been strategically designed, allowing businesses the flexibility to configure their office spaces to their needs and maximize space utilization. In any high-rise, how efficiently people move through the building shapes the working day in ways that are easy to overlook. Pinnacle addresses this with Bangladesh's fastest destination-controlled elevator system. Eight European origin lifts operating at 4 metres per second speed, intelligently group passengers, reducing waiting times and keeping vertical movement fluid across all 40 floors. Supporting the building behind the scenes, a fully Integrated Building Management System (iBMS) continuously monitors all major operations and assets, from energy consumption to the HVAC system, elevators, fire detection system and security, all through a single intelligent platform. Together, these systems enhance energy efficiency, improve the long-term durability of the building's assets and simplify day-to-day management, resulting in a safer building for occupants.
Safety built into every detail
For a commercial skyscraper of this scale, safety begins long before occupancy. Life safety has been integrated into every stage of the design, following the Bangladesh National Building Code (BNBC) alongside globally recognized engineering guidelines covering concrete strength, steel design, wind resistance and earthquake preparedness. The building is fully compliant with international National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards and incorporates dedicated fire compartmentation, UL-certified fire doors, pressurized stairs, protected escape routes and advanced fire detection systems to support rapid emergency response and safe evacuation. Every component has been designed to strengthen resilience, ensuring a building that is safe, durable and built to last.
Sustainability that drives business value
As environmental expectations continue to evolve globally, sustainable buildings are no longer viewed as a premium feature; they are becoming significant. Pinnacle has achieved LEED Platinum certification, the highest level awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). Yet sustainability at Pinnacle extends far beyond certification. High-efficiency HVAC systems with intelligent fresh-air management and Merv-13 filtration, energy-efficient façades and water conservation systems work together to reduce operating costs through water consumption and energy usage optimization, while creating healthier indoor environments for occupants. These measures benefit not only the environment but the businesses within it, through improved efficiency, occupant wellbeing and long-term asset value. At Shanta, sustainability is not a marketing statement. It is a business philosophy.
Architecture should become part of a city's identity
Landmarks are remembered not only because they perform exceptionally but because they become symbols of their cities. Pinnacle's distinctive slanted rooftop, engineered through a specialized composite structural system with expertise from Meinhardt Singapore, creates a silhouette unlike any other on Dhaka's skyline. Level 40 features an incredible space that goes up to 50 feet in height, one of a kind in the city. The reception atrium clad in an exquisite marble complemented by an intricate ceiling design, provides an incomparable first impression. More than an architectural statement, it reflects a quiet confidence in creating something distinctly its own. As night falls, Pinnacle transforms. Its façade lighting highlights the architecture, making it a striking landmark on Dhaka's skyline. For Shanta, architecture is about shaping the identity of a city.
Raising expectations for an entire industry
Every landmark carries a responsibility beyond its own footprint - to raise expectations across the industry. That is the aspiration behind Pinnacle.
For over two decades, Shanta Holdings has introduced new benchmarks for innovative design, uncompromising construction quality and superior customer experience. Pinnacle continues that journey, demonstrating that Bangladesh is fully capable of delivering commercial development that stands alongside international peers. As our economy continues to grow and businesses become increasingly global, commercial infrastructure must evolve with equal ambition. The future will not be defined by the number of buildings constructed, but by the quality, intelligence and vision behind them.
Pinnacle is Shanta's contribution to that future, a statement of what commercial excellence looks like when ambition is matched by engineering, innovation and an uncompromising commitment to raising the standards in Bangladesh.
