AIUB represents Bangladesh at THE congress in Jakarta
American International University-Bangladesh has participated in the Global Sustainable Development Congress 2026, organised by Times Higher Education in Jakarta from 22 to 25 June, positioning itself as a frontrunner for Bangladesh in higher-education sustainability initiatives.
The congress was held at the Indonesia Convention Centre and brought together universities, policymakers, industry leaders, researchers and sustainability advocates from around the world.
The university stated it was the only exhibiting institution from Bangladesh at the congress.
Through its exhibition booth, American International University-Bangladesh showcased its achievements in academic excellence, internationalisation, sustainability initiatives, and research.
The American International University-Bangladesh delegation was led by Ishtiaque Abedin, Founder Member of the Board of Trustees; Shania Abedin, Member of the Board of Trustees; Professor Dr Dip Nandi, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology; and Deputy Director of the Office of Planning and Development Carlin Noelle Lamagna.
During the congress, American International University-Bangladesh signed memoranda of understanding with 14 institutions from Indonesia and the Philippines.
The institutions include Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta, Universitas Negeri Surabaya, Polytechnic University of the Philippines and Quezon City University.
The university said the agreements are expected to support student and faculty mobility, joint research, academic exchanges, curriculum development, and international cooperation.
American International University-Bangladesh also held discussions with City University of Macau on a potential student exchange programme, which may begin as early as January 2027.
Introductory discussions were also held with Nanyang Technological University and Hanyang University to explore future collaborations.
Professor Dr Dip Nandi and Deputy Director of the Office of Planning and Development Carlin Noelle Lamagna participated in a masterclass titled "From Rankings to Ratings? The Evolution of the Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Ratings Methodology".
Professor Dr Dip Nandi also attended a panel discussion on "Lifelong Learning as a Catalyst for Educational Excellence and Social Impact".
The discussion focused on how universities can build flexible learning ecosystems in response to workforce transformation and technological change.
American International University-Bangladesh said its participation in the congress marked a significant step forward in its internationalisation efforts by expanding academic partnerships and engaging with global sustainability frameworks.
