Jamaat to hold mass rally in Dhaka on 5 August demanding implementation of July Charter
He alleges the government had created divisions in national unity by failing to fulfil its pledge to reform the constitution.
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has announced a mass rally in the capital on 5 August, calling for the implementation of the July Charter and accusing the government of backtracking on its commitment to constitutional reform.
The announcement was made today (29 June) at a press briefing held at the party's Dhaka North office in Baridhara by Mohammad Selim Uddin, ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami's Dhaka North unit.
He alleged that the government had created divisions in national unity by failing to fulfil its pledge to reform the constitution.
He said the planned rally on 5 August would be held as part of the party's campaign to press for the implementation of the July Charter.
Describing July as more than just a month, Selim Uddin said it symbolises resistance against domination and represents a historic chapter in safeguarding the country's independence and sovereignty.
He added that the history and spirit of July should be properly presented to the younger generation.
He also alleged that the ruling authorities had abandoned the positions they took in July before assuming office.
At the briefing, Jamaat's Dhaka North unit also announced a 36-day programme marking '36 July (5 August).'
