PM proposes higher tax-free income threshold than budget suggests
The prime minister made the recommendation while taking part in the general discussion on the proposed FY27 national budget in the Jatiya Sangsad today (29 June).
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has proposed raising the tax-free income threshold for individual taxpayers beyond the levels outlined in the proposed national budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year, urging the finance and planning minister to revise the existing proposal.
The prime minister made the recommendation while taking part in the general discussion on the proposed FY27 national budget in the Jatiya Sangsad today (29 June).
Addressing the House, the prime minister said the proposed budget sets the tax-free income threshold at Tk3.75 lakh for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 tax years, Tk4 lakh for the 2028-29 and 2029-30 tax years, and Tk4.5 lakh for the 2030-31 tax year to provide some relief to individual taxpayers.
However, he recommended increasing the limits further, saying, "The tax-free income threshold should be Tk4 lakh for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 tax years, Tk4.5 lakh for the 2028-29 and 2029-30 tax years, and Tk5 lakh for the 2030-31 tax year."
