BNP leader hacked in front of home in Mohammadpur
He sustained serious injuries to the left side of his face, shoulder and left arm, family members said.
A local BNP leader was injured after being hacked by assailants in broad daylight in front of his residence in Dhaka's Mohammadpur area this afternoon (19 June).
The injured, Md Nurul Islam, 55, is the senior joint general secretary of BNP's Ward-33 unit in Mohammadpur.
The incident took place around 2:30pm on Road no 4 of Satmasjid Housing in Mohammadpur. He was later rescued and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Confirming the incident, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner (Mohammadpur zone) Jewel Rana said authorities initially suspect political rivalry may have been behind the attack.
"RAB and police are jointly working to identify and arrest those involved," he said.
According to Nurul's relatives, he was standing in front of a local shop near his house after offering Jummah prayers when six attackers arrived on two motorcycles and indiscriminately hacked him.
