Daraz says it has no plans to exit Bangladesh, reaffirms growth commitment
Daraz Bangladesh has reaffirmed its long-term commitment to the country, saying it continues to operate normally and remains focused on sustainable growth in the local market.
The statement came following recent media reports about the company's investment and operational outlook.
Daraz said such reports do not reflect its actual strategic priorities or day-to-day operations, adding that it sought to clarify its position on the Bangladesh market.
The company said it continues to invest in technology-driven solutions to improve operational efficiency and customer experience, with a focus on building a scalable and sustainable digital commerce operation across Bangladesh.
Daraz said it onboarded more than 7,000 new sellers last year, reflecting the continued growth of its ecosystem and its efforts to create opportunities for local entrepreneurs and small businesses.
The growth of these businesses supports job creation and income opportunities across the wider ecosystem, it said.
The company also said it has maintained an active corporate social responsibility presence in Bangladesh.
During the 2024 floods that affected multiple districts, Daraz supported relief efforts in partnership with humanitarian organisations, contributing more than Tk1.2 crore through corporate and employee donations to assist affected communities.
"Daraz remains firmly committed to Bangladesh and has no plans to exit the market. Bangladesh continues to be an important market for the company, and we are focused on sustainable growth and contributing to the development of the country's digital economy," a Daraz Bangladesh spokesperson said.
"As part of regular business operations, we periodically review our organisational structure to ensure alignment with long-term strategic priorities," the spokesperson added.
Industry observers said Daraz remains a major platform in Bangladesh's e-commerce ecosystem, with ongoing efforts focused on empowering sellers and brands, improving customer experience and supporting digital adoption across the country.
As internet penetration continues to rise and smartphone adoption expands beyond major urban centres, Bangladesh's e-commerce market retains substantial growth potential, the company said.
