Bangladesh and the European Union (EU) have discussed safe migration and expanding opportunities for Bangladeshi skilled workers and professionals through new legal migration pathways, according to a press statement issued today (10 June).
The issues were discussed when Henrik Nielsen, visiting director for International Affairs, Returns and Visa of the European Commission, paid a courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today.

She reaffirmed Bangladesh's commitment to further strengthening its multifaceted partnership with the EU and appreciated the EU's continued engagement in Bangladesh's development journey.
The statement further said both sides exchanged views on the EU's forthcoming Asylum and Return Border Procedure and underscored the importance of close coordination, regular dialogue and due process in migration and return matters.
