At least 12 people suffered burn injuries in an explosion apparently caused by a gas leak at the canteen of the Meghnaghat Jera Power Plant in Narayanganj's Sonargaon this afternoon (13 May).
The explosion occurred around 1pm while employees were having lunch at the canteen, according to officials.

Residential Surgeon Dr Shawon Bin Rahman told The Business Standard that 12 burn victims were brought to the hospital in the afternoon and their conditions were being assessed.
"Three of them have been shifted to the ICU and HDU due to critical burn injuries," he said.
Following the incident, the government said it would investigate the cause of the explosion.
Health and Family Welfare Adviser Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain and State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit visited the injured at the burn institute later in the day.
Speaking to the media, Amit said the actual cause of the incident would be thoroughly investigated.
The ministers also instructed hospital authorities to ensure the highest level of treatment for the victims and assured the families of all necessary government support.
Officials said initial findings suggest the explosion may have been triggered by a leak in a gas line connected to the canteen.
The blast left several workers with burn injuries on their hands, faces and legs.
Colleagues and other workers at the power plant rescued the injured and took them to the burn institute in Dhaka.
